American Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (AAOMP) is the first national organization in the United States dedicated to representing the interests of osteopathic manual practitioners. Our mission is to advance the profession, uphold high standards of care, and protect the public’s right to safe, effective, hands-on healthcare.

Professional Designation

Practitioners who meet our rigorous standards are awarded the title of Registered Osteopathic Manual Practitioner (ROMP). This designation is a symbol of trust, competence, and commitment to the highest level of professional integrity.

This designation ensures that professionals:

Possess a credible, nationally recognized credential.

Have graduated from accredited educational institutions.

Follow a strict code of ethics and professional conduct.

Are fully trained in the legal and clinical framework of osteopathic manual practice in the United States.

The ROMP title is not only a symbol of professional excellence but also an essential prerequisite for obtaining a GEHA license to practice osteopathic manual therapy in any U.S. state, effective June 22, 2025 (World Osteopathy Day). This integration ensures consistency in practice standards across all 50 states and enhances public trust.

Clarifying Professional Identity

One of AAOMP’s goals is to clearly differentiate osteopathic manual practitioners from osteopathic medical doctors (DOs). Through the ROMP designation and our national advocacy, we help reduce public confusion and maintain the integrity and unique identity of both professions.
